Old charm, overall just a pleasant place to stay
Over generously described! Area is really poor but central. Hotel is very old and low standard. It was so poor that I checked out after the first night of my planned 2 night stay.
The hotel staff offered the best customer service I have seen in a long time. One of the managing staff said to us, "the guest is never wrong". In every way the did their best to make our stay pleasant. One morning we over slept and missed our breakfast. The staff was so kind to call up and ask us what we would like to be brought up to our room at no charge. Also, the location was close to shops with in the city center and a local museum and several places to eat. The tea kettle in the room was clean. These days, that is rare.
The hotel has need of much renovation. It had a very strong "old" odor throughout the hotel, except a wing that seem to have been recently renovated. The lighting in the room was very poor. The restaurant menu was very scarce, there was very little for me, as I am a vegetarian. That was a big down side for me.
Nothing, you must avoid it all cost! We booked it because it was the cheapest available and looked good in the pics.
Avoid, avoid, avoid! What a terrible place. I can't even begin to describe the sequence of events that took place during our stay. This isn't even a hotel, it's an old manor that looks like a slaughterhouse/butchery and needs serious revamping. Incompetent staff, dirty rooms loaded with humidity, no ac, no reliability with the booking, horrible breakfast, no professionalism at all. You are on your own with this one!
Nothing. The ads on the internet is misleading, Rooms are cramped, Facilities falling apart, Service extremely poor. Dining room leave much to be desired. Overall appaulling
Everything, my wife enjoyed the furniture, it was good for her taste
Bedding seems to be old
Beautiful old Monument, must see antique furniture.
No lunch or dinner services
its located near the beach and ushaka marine world. it is also not far from the city centre. the antique furniture makes it more appealing. it`s beautiful. there is a lot of parking space and cars are secure.
Great breakfast & clean rooms
Inability to get road directions to locate the hotel, from hotel reception, by phone. Pathetic!!! Part of the problem is the delabidated front facade of hotel...it looks like an old church or cemetry....spooky like Haloween!
Not very well located in "seedy" part of Durban. Booked 2 single beds on confirmation and payment but when checked in only dbl bed room was available - eventually got room changed after much back and forth. Would not stay there again or recommend to anyone.
I liked the penthouse although the lounge was a bit overdecorated with antique furniture.
We struggled to loccate it and the lift is too small. The kitchen looked like a maeshift and there was no proper furniture during breakfast. This lowered the standard.
The hotel needs a reception face lift, the utilization of the old building is very minimal and poor which if designed properly can expand the reception area.. The hotel can use bigger singage for identification..Street and hotel signs are non-visible
The staff and the location
the old fashion place it was very nice to stay there
the bathroom plus the shower was not working right
A hotel filled with beautiful antiques, that really caught my attention! The interior decor wash still very original, for the era from which it dates. I enjoyed the peace and tranquility. The view of the harbour was spectacular. The tide coming in or going out actually fascinated me! The high old ceilings, too beautiful for words. I did not expect to find a piece of well maintained history nestled within the bustle of Durban City, a mere spitting distance from the busy harbour!
Staff were very friendly and helpful and did everything possible to ensure our party had a view of the harbour.
more information on where to have breakfast would be helpful we were guided to an area where guests who had come to a conference were having breakfast. It was how ever quite enjoyable
